Ethics is about the habits we practice and develop throughout our lives. Often called “character,” our ethics are revealed in our habits and in our relationships with others. This might be summed up by John Maxwell’s words, “Life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.” Do you agree with this?
ASSIGNMENT:
Throughout this week, consider the choices you make in this light. Let your observation of yourself inform your consideration of the question – Is how I respond what constitutes my life?
Reflect on your observations. Is it possible to separate means from ends from the standpoint of ethics? What does free will have to do with it? Does this perspective change your understanding of “success” and “failure”? Share your thoughts and experiments with this!
